It is situated in the centre of the city and has become one of Reykjavik's best known symbols. The church took 38 years to build and was designed by Gudjon Samuelsson, the state architect. His design was greatly influenced by Iceland´s mountains and glaciers. It is named after Hallgrimur Petursson, one of Iceland´s most famous poets and clergyman.
